PLAY LEADERS
What do KACCH Play Leaders do?
Hospital Play Leaders provide play activities for children in hospital. As well as keeping children occupied, they help them to cope with pain, anxiety and fear, and to make friends, regain skills they have lost as a result of their illness and to learn new skills.
As a Play Leader, your work would involve:
- providing play to normalize the environment for children attending hospital as in or out patients
- maintaining a safe, child-focused environment where play occurs naturally
- organising daily play, art and craft activities in the playroom or at the child's bedside
- providing play activities to help children reach developmental goals
- helping children master and cope with anxieties and other negative feelings
- organizing parties and special events to maintain their contact with home, school and the community

What qualification and experience do we look for?
- at least two years recent professional experience working with children —such as in a school and nursery
- fluent in both English and Arabic
- creative and have artistic skills
- some knowledge of developmental age appropriate play
- team oriented
- proactive, positive and practical

Is there further training and development?
As a Play Leader, you will be expected to develop your skills and knowledge throughout your career by using the KACCH library, going to lectures, and attending staff Play Leader continuing education meetings and exams.
