Volunteering
Our volunteers are exceptional
individuals who take that extra step to make a difference
in a child's life in hospital, bringing about a sense
of normality, care, and fun. Throughout the years volunteers
have unselfishly given their time by contributing in
many different ways, helping provide children in hospital
with a friendly positive atmosphere. Whether it is by
playing with the children in hospital, decorating the
paediatric wards to promote a child friendly environment,
helping in the office or at fundraising events, volunteers
play a significant role in supporting KACCH in its aims
and goals.
:: How You Can Help
There are several ways that you can
volunteer. You may choose one or more ways to contribute
your time, depending on your availability, interests,
and our openings.
Our volunteer opportunities
include:
Play
In our playrooms, play areas
and outpatient waiting areas, children enjoy playing
games and making art creations with volunteers. Our
play programme is offered in six
government hospitals. Volunteers get an opportunity
to choose their preferred hospital and days they wish
to work in, however, final placement is made according
to available openings and programme needs. Hours are
from 9am to 12noon. During this period volunteers are
always guided as well as supervised by a Play Leader
and Child Life Specialist, all working together to organise
a range of activities which children can choose from.
Such activities include: painting, finger painting,
imitative play, play dough, crafts, art projects, reading
stories and much more.
Special Events
Various events are held in the hospitals
each year bringing entertainment, fun and joy for both
the children and their families. Let it be b-days, national
days, celebrations or parties, our volunteers provide
a helping hand with a positive spirit.
Decorating Paediatric Areas
One of our goals is to bring about
a more child friendly environment in the hospitals.
We are constantly on the look out for talented artists
and skillful individuals who would like to contribute
their time by bringing to life the hall ways, playrooms
and paediatric areas with colorful images, or by making
mobiles and soft furnishings such as cushions and curtains.
Office Support
Volunteers provide office support
such as: typing, computer entry, photocopying, booklet
binding, filing and more. Their assistance makes an
invaluable contribution to KACCH’s day-to-day
activities.
Website
Our KACCH website is continually
being updated. Volunteers with skills such as computer
programming, writing, proof reading, or with creative
ideas contribute greatly by helping us link KACCH to
both the national and international community.
Fundraising
Different fundraising events are
organized throughout each year in order to raise money
and awareness for KACCH and its programmes in different
hospitals. Volunteers may participate in such events
or may also collaborate with KACCH to come up with different
fundraising ideas and plans.
:: Join Our Team
If you would like to volunteer
with KACCH, please complete our
volunteer application form. We will then contact
you to arrange for an interview within a month.
All applicants must complete a volunteer
application form, go through an interview, and attend
a general orientation before commencement. You need
to be at least 16 years old and be willing to commit
at least 3 hours once a week. Also, because of the nature
of care being given within the hospitals, all volunteers
are required to adhere to standard policies outlined
in our Code of Conduct,
which you will be asked to read and sign.
Note: Volunteers do not take the place
of salaried staff. Volunteer service is not intended
in any way to lead to paid employment.
